The picturesque route along the Pacific Coast Highway invites you to linger in coastal towns, wander through hidden beaches, and discover the charm of both Malibu and Ventura. But it’s Santa Barbara itself that’s the ultimate destination: a fascinating place, designed, quite literally, for residents to live a beautiful life.

Standing proud between the mountains and the Pacific Ocean, Santa Barbara offers everything from wine tasting in rolling hills to strolling along pristine beaches and soaking in the city’s curious history and culture. Stay for days if you can (or even move there if you have the visa.)

But I’m getting carried away. Let’s focus instead on the road trip aspect. One of the best ways to see the United States is to put rubber to road. Here’s how to drive to Santa Barbara from LA.
